Louisville Community Radio
Our Mission:
WXBH will be a community supported, locally-controlled alternative to the current plethora of stations controlled by out-of-town conglomerates that dominate Louisville's radio market. We believe the public airwaves are a precious public resource which must be made accessible to the public. They should be available for use as a forum for discussing local issues, as a performance venue for local artists, as a news medium for informing the public of the activities of local groups, and in countless other ways to be determined by you, the public. This is a community effort! We will provide training, infrastructure, and access to the public airwaves. The community (that's you!) will provide the programming! So start preparing a programming proposal today! |

The Brick Radio project was established in 2001 by a group of individuals committed to gaining an FCC permit and creating a community radio station in Louisville. The Brick Radio project is a committee of the Brick House, a non-profit community center located in Old Louisville. Six years after its inception, and still committed to its initiative, the radio project is on the verge of realizing its vision. On April 29th, 2005, the FCC awarded two construction permits for local LPFM stations, to the Brick House and the Fern Creek High School Alumni Association. Since there was only one frequency available for both, 92.7 mHz, the FCC encouraged the two parties to work out a time share agreement. We have completed that agreement as well as a facility share agreement and plan to be on the air on June 1, 2007! |

WXBH is reliant upon the community for support in content production, volunteer service, and financial contributions. Unlike commercial radio, FCC regulations prohibit low power stations from financing operations through the sale of advertising spots. WXBH's survival is dependent on the community's ability to support the station through donations and underwriting. The $70,000 fundraising goal includes expenses related to station start-up such as: transmission equipment, main studio and secondary productiom studio equipment, remote interview equipment, general start up expenses, and monthly maintenance costs.
The Brick House is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit institution - All financial contributions to WXBH are tax-deductable.
